A man was shot and killed while sitting in a parked car on E. 14th Street late Monday night. He has been identified as Leslie Townsend.

Investigators with the Chattanooga Police Department’s Homicide Unit on Tuesday afternoon took 34-year-old Shermaine Menifee into custody for theTownsend murder. He has been charged with first-degree murder, aggravated assault, and unlawful possession of a firearm.

It was Townsend who in March of last year was charged with shooting 25-year-old Leon McKinney in the hand while he sat in a car on Tunnel Boulevard.

Police said Townsend and McKinney had a long-running feud..

Townsend's uncle, Robert Moore, was shot and killed at 2302 E. 14th St. while he was sitting on the front porch of the residence a short time before Townsend was charged with shooting McKinney. Kadeem Pratt is awaiting trial in that case.

At 11:19 p.m. Monday, Chattanooga Police responded to a shooting at 2302 E 14th St. They found  Townsend, 25, suffering from a gunshot wound.

The victim was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

It was reported that the victim was in a car parked in front of the residence when the suspect shot him. The investigation is ongoing.
