Larry Ables informed County Commission members on Tuesday that he is withdrawing as a candidate to continue as magistrate.

He said he is planning a campaign for General Sessions Court judge in next year's election.

The commission on Wednesday is due to vote on two magistrates.

Mr. Ables was one of the incumbents along with Jeff Smith.

Mr. Ables at one time was chief magistrate. That post is now held by Randy Russell.

The magistrates set bonds and sign warrants from an office at the county jail.
