Zounds Hearing, the fastest growing hearing aid company in the United States, announced the opening of its newest Zounds Hearing Center at 1511 Gunbarrel Road, Suite 107, Chattanooga, Tn. 37421.

Glenn and Betsy Bird, longtime residents of the Chattanooga area, understand the problems facing the hearing impaired very well, as they have watched members of their own families struggle with the frustrations and isolation that comes with hearing loss. Several members of their respective families have had hearing issues over the years stemming from everything from military service to age.

The Birds made the decision to become franchise owners after meeting Sam Thomasson, founder and CEO of Zounds Hearing. Mr. Thomasson’s quest to create the best hearing aid on the market was born out of a desire to help Kate, his hearing impaired daughter, and the Birds wanted to be a part of that journey.

“Our goal was to find a company that spoke to us with its values, its heart and that truly offered something unique and helpful to the market,” said Mr. Bird. “When we learned about Sam and Kate’s story and realized the level of new hearing aid technology, including 57 exclusive patents, that Sam and his Zounds Hearing team had developed, we knew it was the right fit for us.”

Mr. Thomasson has much personal experience with the frustrations of using hearing aids that don’t work properly. “My daughter struggled to understand and vocalize speech,” said Mr. Thomasson. “Hearing in noisy environments like a restaurant or car was especially difficult and her hearing aids would frequently squeal, causing her pain. As an electrical engineer, I knew that if she was to have the kind of life she deserved, I had to do something about it.” Zounds Hearing is the culmination of years of effort.

Much of Zounds’ success has been attributed to its ability to eliminate up to 90% of background noise. “Being able to hear in social situations, such as a family gathering or dining out has made such a difference in terms of quality of life for Kate and our many customers,” said Mr. Thomasson. “Our customers tell us the combination of noise reduction, our rechargeable battery station, as well as, our factory direct pricing make us their first choice of hearing aid.”
