Headrick Applauds Vote Against “Dark Money”

  • Tuesday, September 9, 2014

Dr. Mary Headrick, candidate for Tennessee Third Congressional seat, applauded Monday’s Senate vote to advance the amendment to the United States Constitution to keep “dark money” out of politics and reverse two US Supreme Court decisions that removed limits on Corporation campaign contributions.

“The Conservative majority on the United States Supreme Court has made decisions that have put our government up for sale,” Dr. Headrick stated.  “Monday’s Senate vote is the first step toward taking elections back from big money and returning them to 'We, the people' with the principle 'One person, one vote'”

“There is a long process ahead, however,” Dr. Headrick cautioned.  “Both Senate and House must pass the amendment, and then two-thirds of the states must ratify it. We applaud Senators Alexander and Corker for their support so far and hope that they will not join in the expected GOP filibuster in order to prevent the majority of Americans from having their say in our elections.”  Our 1971 twenty-sixth amendment lowering voter age to 18 proved that we can amend our constitution.

“This November, more than ever, we need to be sure we elect people who can work across the aisle and get this done,"  Dr. Headrick said.   “To do that, we need to begin by voting against folks like Congressman Chuck Fleischmann, who receive most of their campaign funds from corporations and big money donors.”

"Dr. Headrick, whose campaign slogan is 'People before Politics,' is running her campaign with an army of dedicated volunteers rather than large donations from corporate entities," officials stated.
