George “Tad” A. Mindeman, of Lookout Mountain, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, October 20, 2015. 

George was born in Iowa City, Ia., in 1954 to George E. and Joyce E. Mindeman.  He moved to Tulsa, Ok., and graduated from Edison High School in 1972.  Tad was a graduate of Wheaton College (Wheaton, Il.) in 1976.  He also held master’s degrees from the University of Chicago in 1977 and the University of Washington in 1978.

A leader in his field, Tad spent the majority of his professional career guiding libraries at Christian universities and colleges, most recently as the director of Library Services at Covenant College (Lookout Mountain, Georgia) since 2002. Tad was a member of many professional organizations and associations, consistently serving on boards and committees. A lifelong baseball enthusiast, Tad umpired youth baseball games for over 20 years. In addition, Tad was often found playing clarinet for local orchestras and ensembles. Tad was a long-standing member of Grace Presbyterian Church, Lookout Mountain, Ga.

Tad is survived by his wife, Barbara; their six children (Nathan, Liesl, Hannah, Andrew, Samuel, and Matthew), and 12 grandchildren.  He is also survived by his mother Joyce, and his siblings (John, Katie, and Jeff). 

A memorial service for Tad will be held on Oct. 26, at 4:30 p.m. at Grace Presbyterian Church, 13478 Scenic Highway, Lookout Mountain. 

In lieu of flowers, the Mindeman Family has established the Tad Mindeman Memorial Fund at The Generosity Trust, 736 Market Street, Suite 1402, Chattanooga, Tn. 37402, from which the family will make charitable gifts in Tad’s memory.
