Avid Tennessee Vols Fan Retired From Combustion Engineering

C. Owen White, 85, of Hixson, died on Saturday, December 5, 2015, to be with his heavenly father.

Owen came to the Chattanooga area in the late 1940s where he met and married the love of his life, Doris Hicks of Lookout Valley.  They have lived in Hixson since 1958 where Owen had been an active member of Hixson First Baptist Church. 

Owen was an avid UT Vols fan, attending every home game for 16 consecutive years. 

Owen coached Hixson High School’s Optimist League baseball teams in the 1960s and also coached Hixson Youth League baseball and basketball in the 1970s.

Owen retired from Combustion Engineering after 34 years of service.  

He was the son of the late B. C. and Maggie White, of Florence, Al.  He was also preceded in death by his brother, Delbert, also of Florence.   

Owen is survived by his wife of 67 years, Doris Hicks White; sons and daughters-in-law, Terry (Glenda) White and Gary (Kim) White; brother, Dewell of Baton Rouge, LA; grandchildren, Shannon Ratliff, Brooke Manning, Mike White and Ronnie White.  

The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 7, and 12-1 p.m. on Tuesday at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.

A celebration of Owen’s life will follow at 1 p.m. on Tuesday at the North Chapel with Reverend Terry Shannon officiating and a special prayer by Reverend Jeff Howell and his wife Sandy will be singing. Burial will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens. Honorary pallbearers will be Combustion Engineering co-workers and the John Alvis Sunday School Class. 

Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson.
