Bradley Commission Pulls Back Vote On Support For School Director Johnny McDaniel

  • Tuesday, February 17, 2015

The Bradley County Commission on Tuesday pulled back an agenda item of a vote of support for Bradley County School Director Johnny McDaniel.

Commissioners had been expected to give their preference on whether Mr. McDaniel should stay on.

Bradley County School Board Chairman Nicholas Lillios earlier said an agreement had been reached to buy out the contract of Mr.  McDaniel.

A special called board meeting to consider the buyout will be next Tuesday at 1:30 p.m.

Mr. Lillios and Mr. McDaniel said in a joint statement:

"Shortly after the start of the 2014-2015 school year, the Board of Education and Mr. McDaniel became aware that they had differing opinions regarding how Mr. McDaniel's administration should operate the Bradley County Schools. After discussing these differing opinions with board members, Mr McDaniel suggested that it would be in the best interest of the Bradley County Schools to buy out the remaining months of Mr. McDaniel's contract.

"Counsel for the Bradley County Board of Education has prepared a buyout proposal based upon the terms of Mr. McDaniel's contract and will present this proposal to the board on Feb. 24.

"Mr. McDaniel appreciates having had the opportunity to serve the Bradley County School System as a principal at Bradley Central High School and as the director of Bradley County Schools. He wishes the Board of Education, its administrators and its faculty well as they continue to provide an excellent education to the children of Bradley County. He also helps that the citizens and residents of Bradley County will continue to support their fine school system and the officials who have the difficult task of operating it."

Mr. McDaniel was honored as the 2013 Tennessee Superintendent of the Year.
