Roy Joe Thomas, 86, of Rome, GA and formerly of Chattooga County, passed away Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at his residence.
Mr. Thomas was born in Trion, GA on September 24, 1928, to the late Luke Thomas and Flora Davis Thomas. He was a member of the New Armuchee Baptist Church, and prior to retirement, was employed with the Farmer’s and Merchant’s Bank, First National Bank at Trion, and was an appraiser for Floyd County. Mr. Thomas was a veteran of WWII, serving in the United States Army was an active member of the Lions Club and the Kiwanis Club.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Thomas was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Thomas Stowe; and a brother-in-law, Rev. Darty F. Stowe.
Mr. Thomas is survived by four nephews, Dave Stowe, Donald Stowe, Danny Stowe and Dale Stowe.
Funeral Services for Mr. Thomas will be held Thursday, April 30, at 11 a.m. in the Petitt Chapel of the Coffman Funeral Home with Dr. David Howard and Rev. Kenneth Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in the West Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be David Stowe, Donald Stowe, Danny Stowe, Dale Stowe, Jimmy Barron and Jim Moser.
Mr. Thomas will be in state at the Coffman Funeral Home and the family will receive friends Thursday, April 30 from 10 a.m. until the funeral hour.
