Lightning Strike Damages Home In Soddy Daisy

Fire damaged a home in the Soddy Daisy area Wednesday night. The fire was reportedly started from a lightning strike.

A neighbor called 911 to report the house fire at 10309 Hamby Road around 9:45 p.m. The Sequoyah Volunteer Fire Department responded and arrived within minutes reporting the entire roof line of the home was on fire.

The Sequoyah VFD immediately requested a mutual aid response for additional manpower and apparatus. The Dallas Bay VFD and Mowbray VFD responded.

According to fire officials, the homeowner was not home at the time. No injuries were reported, but Hamilton County EMS was on the scene for any potential injuries to the firefighters. Fifty percent of the home is a loss and damages are listed at $60,000.

Chief Mike Brumlow, Sequoyah VFD, reported the fire started from a lightning strike.
