The ESV Men’s Devotional Bible: A Review

Men have a peculiar weight on our shoulders. Biblically, it’s our responsibility to lead our families and our societies in obedience to Christ. Much of our present cultural climate is caused by men abdicating their God-given duties. The only remedy for the situation we’re in is godly men willing to lead. For that reason, please consider the ESV Men’s Devotional Bible as a Father’s Day present for the dads in your life.

I’ve had men’s devotional bibles before, and to put it mildly, I’ve been underwhelmed.
They tend to be fluff-filled puffs of hot air that pander to what men think of themselves, rather than what God thinks of them. The ESV Men’s Devotional Bible avoids this trap.  How?

The devotions in this bible are theologically rich, and the articles are directly from the text of Scripture. There’s no trace of superficial cultural concepts of masculinity. This bible exposes men to God’s word in ways uniquely fitted to the job God has given us to do. It calls out portions of Scripture that help us love our wives, raise our children, and lead through trials. There’s no substitute for this kind of honest, application-driven exposition.

I pray I’ve said enough to whet your appetite for this devotional bible. I’m going to stop here so you can stop reading what I write and go start reading the devotionals in this glorious gift Crossway has given to the men of Christ’s Church.
