Margie Josephine James
Margie Josephine Cornelius James, of Hickory, N.C., affectionately known as “Mama Jo”, died on Tuesday, June 7, 2016, at Hospice of Catawba Valley, following a brief illness, at the age of 97 years 8 months and 1 day.
Mrs. James was born on Oct. 6, 1918, to the union of A. Columbus and Carrie Gabriel Cornelius.
She was married to the late Robie C. James to whom two children were born: Margie Josephine James Singletary of Hickory, NC and Gloria James Sudderth (Harry) McKeldin of Chattanooga.
In addition to her children, she is survived by four grandchildren, Angela P.(Bruce) Hughes of Auburn GA, Wanda M. Sudderth of Hickory, NC, Tammera Sudderth Hill of Holly Springs, NC and Samuel Erik Hunt of Hickory, NC; five great-grandchildren, David (Heather) Brunson, Jr. of Winter Park, FL Stephanie Brunson (Anthony)Oliver of Winder, GA, Joshua E. Hunt and Kayla Morrison of Lincolnton, NC and Gloria Grace Wilson of Holly Springs, NC; three great- great-grandchildren, David Brunson III (Tre) and Lucy Jo Brunson of Winter Park, FL and Anthony Oliver Jr. of Winder, GA; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The family hour is on Saturday, June 11, at 2 p.m., followed by the funeral service at 3 p.m. at Friendship Baptist Church, Hickory, NC.
