Edwin Shuck
Edwin H. Shuck, Jr., M.D. died peacefully at home on August 25, 2017 after a long illness. He was 93 years old.
He was born in Union City, Tn. He attended Newbern High School and graduated from Kemper Military Academy. He began college at UT Knoxville but entered the Army after World War II began. He served in the Transportation Corps Headquarters, engaged in logistical planning for the Pacific campaign. He entered OCS but resigned when the war ended. Returning to UTK, he finished his undergraduate degree and then graduated from UT College of Medicine in Memphis. After receiving his M.D. degree, he had further training at Erlanger Hospital and the New York Polyclinic. He entered practice in Chattanooga in 1957 and retired reluctantly 50 years later in 2007.
He was a member of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgery, The Piedmont Society of Colon and Rectal Surgery, AMA, TMA, and the Chattanooga and Hamilton County Medical Society. He practiced at Erlanger, Parkridge, and Memorial Hospitals.
He was a member of the Lookout Mountain Presbyterian Church. In his leisure time he was an avid sailor, a longtime member of the Privateer Yacht Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin H. Shuck and Belle Jonakin Frazier, and brother, William. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Celestia; sister, Alice Frazier; children, Edwin,III (Diane), Michael, Susan, and Sam (Melissa); granddaughter, Rissa; sisters-in-law, Mary Lena Smith and Peggy Shuck; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on Saturday, Sept. 2, at 2 p.m., with a service to follow at 3 p.m. in the funeral home chapel, with the Reverend Joe Novenson officiating. Burial will be private.
