Due, in part, to assistance from community members, Chattanooga Police have arrested the suspect in a shots fired call that resulted in property damage to several homes. CPD's Gun Team charged Cordell Dewayne Young, 26, with five counts of aggravated assault, one count of reckless endangerment and one count of vandalism.

On Sept. 29, CPD Neighborhood Policing Officers responded to the 2800 block of Dodson Avenue on a report of a drive-by shooting. Once on scene, officers discovered damage to several homes along with several shell casings.

Soon after responding to that call, officers stopped Young for speeding. He was found to be in possession of drugs and a firearm. Young was charged at that time and taken into custody. Charges included possessing a firearm with Intent to go armed, drugs for resale, speeding and driving without a license.

Additional investigation by the CPD Gun Team with assistance from multiple community members and CPD Neighborhood Policing Officers led to confirmation that Young is the individual responsible for the shots fired in the 2800 block of Dodson Avenue on Sept. 29, it was stated.

Young is currently in custody at the Hamilton County Jail.
