Frances Cowan
Frances D. Cowan, 94, passed away on Monday, February 5, 2018.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Leland F. Cowan, her two sons, Michael and Christopher and her sister, Mary Louise Webb.
She is survived by her daughter, Carol (Foster) Goodwin and son, David (Ivy) Cowan; her sister, Anne Austin; her brother, Charles Doughty, 12 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Frances was born in Chattanooga and graduated from City High School. She attended the University of Chattanooga where she was a member of the Beta Beta Chapter of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority.
She was retired from JC Penney and later volunteered for many years at Memorial Hospital.
A devout Roman Catholic, Frances was an active parishioner of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Chattanooga, for over 60 years.
Her funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Feb. 12, at OLPH Church, 501 S. Moore Road, Chattanooga, with Father Jim Vick officiating. The family will receive visitors one hour preceding the service in Holy Family Hall and internment will follow the service at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, 1 Mt. Olivet Dr., Chattanooga, Tn. 37412.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) Association, Gift Processing Center, PO Box 37022, Boon, Ia. 50037, or Hospice of Chattanooga, PO Box 46, Chattanooga, Tn. 37401.
