Phillip Hutton, 31, was killed on Friday in an accident on Hixson Pike after police said a drunk driver crossed the center line.
The Chattanooga Police Department responded to a traffic crash at 8:20 a.m., at 5520 Hixson Pike.
Harrison S. Rogers, 28, who had been arrested for DUI in 2014 and 2016 and pleaded guilty both times, was driving a Pontiac traveling south in the 5500 block of Hixson Pike. Witnesses stated to police that he was driving erratically and veered into an oncoming traffic lane.
He struck a motorcycle, driven by Mr. Hutton, who was traveling north on Hixson Pike. Upon impact, Hutton was thrown from the motorcycle. He was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
During the investigation, Rogers exhibited signs of impairment. He was transported to the Hamilton County Jail where a blood draw was conducted. He is charged with aggravated vehicular homicide, DUI - third offense, reckless driving, driving on revoked license for DUI, driving left of center, and implied consent.
The victim left behind a wife and young daughter.
