Alice "Allie" Emily Engelhardt
Alice "Allie" Emily Engelhardt passed away peacefully on August 23, 2018, after a stroke and a period of suffering.
Born in Rockwood, Tennessee to Frederick and Emily Wilson Engelhardt, Allie had one brother Frederick, deceased in 2015.
She is survived by her husband Al Murdoch,Crossville, TN; son Erik Purins (Mia) Fernandina Beach, Florida; daughter Susan Robillard, Campbell River BC, Canada; grandchildren Caleb, Evan, Austin, Emma May; great grandchild Lexis; and her much loved and loyal Dockey.
Allie grew up in Rockwood where she attended elementary school. After she and her family moved to Chattanooga, Allie graduated from City High, class of '58, and then attended Barry College in Miami, Florida. From 1961 until 1985, Allie was a military wife raising her children and being involved with the activities of the Officers Wives Club. She returned to Chattanooga where she worked as an administrative assistant, eventually marrying Al Murdoch and moving to Crossville, Tennessee.
An extrovert, Allie made friends easily. She was witty with a quirky sense of humor that could leave you laughing hysterically or pulling the barb out of your ego. Her Grandmother Wilson instilled in her a strong work ethic and the competency to accomplish whatever was necessary. Her versatility was remarkable: an avid reader, happy gardener, excellent seamstress, gourmet cook, handywoman, hostess, arts and crafts creator. Both adventurous and impulsive, Allie could launch a "road trip" suddenly and enthusiastically. Her last one was to deliver a St. Bernard puppy to her ill son in Florida to help with his recuperation.
Allie will be interred in the Chattanooga National Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 12, 2018, with an informal gathering of family and friends.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project or the SPCA in Allie's name.
