Officials of the Tennessee American Water Company said they are interested in taking over operation of the Hamilton County Water and Wastewater Treatment Authority.
The issue of the possible sale of the WWTA came up during discussion of finding a site for a new sewage treatment plant for North Hamilton County.
Water Company officials said, "Quality water and its delivery is important for any community. Tennessee American Water has served the greater Chattanooga community for over 130 years.
As a private water utility we always are open to helping find solutions that provide an essential service to citizens and are sound business investments.
"County officials have stated their interest in exploring various options on the waste water in the northern part of the County, including the possible sale of the WWTA. Tennessee American Water has expressed to officials our interest in bringing our expertise to the table as owner operator of the system."
