Barbara Dillender
Barbara Huff Beville Dillender of Signal Mountain died on Sunday, January 13, 2019, at the
age of 87.
She is survived by her loving husband, Richard D. Dillender, Jr. (Dick). They have been by each other’s side for five wonderful years.
Barbara was born on December 24, 1931 to Henrietta and Jim Huff of Gatlinburg, TN, where she grew up and graduated from Pi Beta Phi High School. She received her BS degree at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville and later her MS degree from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
Barbara was the assistant director of Team Evaluation Center, and later worked as the director of the Career Planning and Placement Center as well as the Women’s Center at Chattanooga State Community College. She moved to Gatlinburg where she owned and operated three gift shops, managed and was part owner of the Burning Bush Restaurant and Huff’s Motel. She was the managing partner of the Hampton Inn until her death. She was an active member of the Board of Governors of Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts in Gatlinburg.
She is survived by her three children: Doug BeVille, III of Chattanooga, Amy BeVille of Acworth, GA, and Laura BeVille of Signal Mountain, TN; by six grandchildren: Sally (Lance) Hunter, Chris (Annie) Elder, Susan (Chris) Forker, Bekah Elder (Josh Warren), John BeVille, Barbara Nell BeVille and six great grandchildren.
Barbara and her family were very blessed by having added to their family Dick’s children: Becky (Ward) Gossett of Signal Mountain, David (Patti) Dillender of Ormond Beach, FL, Teke Dillender of Portland, OR, and his six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her three sisters and one brother: Nancy (Jerry, deceased) Hays of Gatlinburg, TN, Jim Huff of Gatlinburg, TN, Pat (Jerry) Fuller of Columbia, SC, Martha (John) Bates of Lufkin, TX.
There will be a reception to celebrate Barbara’s life at the Signal Mountain Golf and Country Club, Signal Mtn., on Saturday, Jan. 26, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. There will be a private interment of ashes at a later date.
