Voices On The Trail Of Tears" Program Set For Oct. 19

  • Wednesday, October 2, 2019
Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park will conduct a 45-minute program at the Brown’s Ferry Federal Road in Moccasin Bend National Archeological District on Saturday, Oct. 19, at 2 p.m. Participants should take the Manufacturer’s Road exit off Highway 27 and drive west, following the “Special Event” signs. The program location’s physical address is 707 Moccasin Bend Road in Chattanooga.

"Indian Removal can be summed up as one of the saddest chapter’s in American history," organizers said.  "The not-so-distant voices of the Cherokee cry out of how a peaceful people were forcibly removed from their ancestral lands and of the hardships they faced traveling to a virtually unknown destination.
Today, it is hard for us to imagine such an event, and we hope to never see it happen again. However, during World War II, an eerily similar incident occurred to another group of peaceful Americans. This event seemed to prove that if one does not learn from history, it tends to repeat itself. Have we truly learned from our past mistakes, or could we see something like this transpire again?"

Comfortable, supportive footwear, portable chairs, appropriate clothing for the weather and water are recommended for this program.
