Willodene Jenkins Scott
Jenkins Scott was born on September 4, 1947, to the late William Arthur Jenkins and Lillie Rucker Jenkins in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
She departed this earthly life on Sunday, October 27, 2019, in Hampton, Virginia.
Dene, as she was affectionately called, was educated in the Chattanooga Public School System and was a 1965 graduate of Riverside High School. She matriculated and graduated from Spelman College in Atlanta in 1969. After graduating from Spelman, she began her career in Information Science with IBM in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. Her professional career in Information Science, serving as a systems programmer spanned four decades and she retired from Continental Automotive Corporation, Newport News, Va.
Willodene was a faithful, active member of Orchard Knob Missionary Baptist Church of Chattanooga during her formative years. Since her relocation to Hampton, she joined the First Baptist Church of Hampton where she remained a faithful member serving the Usher and Dance Ministries and Auxiliary to the Deacons. She was actively involved with the Spelman Alumnae Association and a cheerful financial donor to Spelman College.
One could never think of Dene without remembering her deep love of reading. She loved books and was always looking for something new to read. Dene was also an avid lover of the arts. She was a talented student of the piano and dance during her youth and took dance classes for many years as an adult. She enjoyed plays and loved being able to attend local and Broadway productions throughout her life.
She was preceded in death by her loving parents, William Arthur Jenkins and Lillie Rucker Jenkins, and her beloved brother Bertram Arthur Jenkins.
She leaves to cherish her memory a son, Evan A. Scott (Kimberly), of Fort Collins, Co.; daughter, Erika D. Scott, of Hampton, Va.; a grandson, Brandon A. Scott, of Hampton, Va.; granddaughters, Maya Jane Scott-Donegan and Delia Dene Scott-Donegan, of Fort Collins, Co.; aunt, Mrs. Mary B. Tull; devoted cousins, Ruby Frances Jenkins, Vikki Allen, and Valeria Allen, all of Chattanooga, Michael Allen (Charleen), Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Jennifer Allen Gore (Charles), Conyers, Georgia, Ramona Rucker Carter, Vanessa Rucker Johnson (Warren), all of Huntsville, Al.; Hezekiah Rucker, Jr. (Charlene), Dayton, Ohio; Dawn Rucker Jackson (Gary), Mobile, Al.; devoted friends, Lydia Arrington and Theora Rankins of Hampton, and Altamese Toney of Chattanooga, as well as a host of other relatives and dear friends.
Funeral services will be held in Hampton, Va., at First Baptist Church of Hampton at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 4. Interment will be in Parkland Memorial Park.
