World War II Veteran Was Longtime Owner Of Ralph's Coiffures On Signal Mountain

Ralph Edward Smith of Signal Mountain, Tennessee, passed away on November 14, 2019, at the age of 92.  

He was born to William Mathey and Ida Mae Smith of Chattanooga on July 17, 1927.  Ralph lived his life through his family, church, and business.  Ralph’s Coiffures was a cornerstone on Signal Mountain for 47 years in its shopping center where he became endeared as the “mayor of the plaza.” Ralph was known for his childish humor, camel walk dance, trick water skiing, friendly card game, bowling kingpin, and a connoisseur of golf.  He was a faithful member of Signal Mountain Baptist Church. During World War II, Ralph served his country in the Army Air Wing.

He is survived by the love of his life, Mildred Ruth Smith and five devoted children: Faye Page, Carolyn Dunwoody, Steven Smith (Susan), Judy McCarter (Donnie) and Michelle Rawlston (Steve). Visits by his fourteen grandchildren and twenty-nine great grandchildren brought him joyous smiles.

Funeral services will be at 12:45 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 21, in the funeral home chapel. Interment will be at Chattanooga National Cemetery at 2 p.m.
