A house in Hixson suffered extensive fire damage on New Year's Eve.
Around 5:15 p.m., the Highway 58 Volunteer Fire Department responded to the fire at 6513 Lakeshore Parkway.
The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office arrived prior to fire department units. Deputies reported heavy smoke showing from the garage and front of the house.
The Highway 58 Fire Department arrived on scene and quickly went to work making access to the garage and home. During further investigation, firefighters determined the main fire was inside the garage.
Once other fire crews arrived a team made entry further into the home to check for extension in the attic and the rest of the home.
The fire was quickly brought under control. Crews set up fans to remove smoke from the home.
The homeowner was treated on the scene for smoke inhalation, but refused transport to the hospital.
No further injuries were reported, but Hamilton County EMS remained on the scene as a precautionary measure.
The Chattanooga Fire Department was called for Mutual Aid to cover at Highway 58 Station 1 during the fire.
The American Red Cross was called to the scene to assist the homeowner.
The estimated damage totaled over $70,000 to the home, vehicles and contents.
Cause of the fire is undetermined at this time.
