Anna Howell
Girl Scouts of the Southern Appalachians congratulates Anna Howell of Chattanooga Christian School, Gabriella Logsdon of Sequoyah High School, Daphne Thomas of Girls Preparatory School and Cecelia Turner of Girls Preparatory School for earning the Girl Scout Gold Award. Their projects focused on concussion treatment and awareness, recycling, swimming and water safety and efficient farming.
• Anna’s project focused on bringing awareness to proper concussion treatment, management and protocol. She conducted a seminar at Chattanooga Christian School that was geared towards athletes, coaches, and administrators. Abigail brought in an expert in the field to speak during the seminar, and even added her own personal testimony.
• Daphne helped complete an aquaponics system in the African nation of Swaziland with the organization One Heart Africa. She then created a smaller scale aquaponics system to educate people about efficient farming alternatives and to empower others that they too can have a global impact.
• Gabby saw that her school, Sequoyah High School, didn’t recycle so she helped create and maintain a recycling club. She collected donated bins and was able to bring awareness to recycling and keeping the environment safe and clean. In addition to the Gold Award, Gabby was also awarded the Overall Achievement Scholarship designated by the GSCSA Board Gold Award Scholarship committee.
• Cecelia has been swimming her entire and wanted to share her skills with others. She created a program to teach kids how to swim, survival swimming, and different safety procedures.
By earning the Girl Scout Gold Award, each girl has become a community leader. Her accomplishments reflect leadership and citizenship skills that set her apart.
"Earning the Girl Scout Gold Award is truly a remarkable achievement, and Anna, Gabriella, Daphne and Cecelia exemplify leadership in all its forms," said Lynne Fugate, chief executive officer of the Girl Scout Council of the Southern Appalachians. "Each saw a need in their communities and around the world and took action. Their extraordinary dedication, perseverance, and leadership is making the world a better place."
Some universities and colleges offer scholarships unique to Gold Award Girl Scouts, and girls who enlist in the U.S. Armed Forces may receive advanced rank in recognition of their achievements.
