Driver Who Fled Wreck In Which 9-Year-Old Was Killed Meets With Police; GoFundMe Account Set Up For Haddock Family

  • Monday, June 10, 2019

A nine-year-old child, Liam Haddock, has died after a hit-and-run wreck on East Main Street on Friday night. Two other people were injured. Liam died on Sunday.

Police said 34-year-old Ryan Haddock was turning onto Main Street from South Kelly Street in his Mazda at 9:08 p.m. when it was struck by a Lexus.

Police said the Lexus was traveling east on Main Street and had the right of way.

Liam and his brother Dexter, five, were in the Mazda and were properly secured.

The driver of the Lexus fled the scene on foot. That driver voluntarily came forward on Monday to meet with Chattanooga Police Department traffic investigators. Information obtained during that interview is part of the open, ongoing investigation and not available at this time, police said. Additionally, the identity of the driver is being withheld and a determination regarding if and what specific charges are filed will be determined.

Hamilton County EMS responded and transported Mr. Haddock and the two children to a local hospital.

A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to help the Haddock family. Click here for details.
