The Humane Educational Society’s Board of Directors has appointed Dr. Tai Federico to the role of interim executive director while seeking a permanent leader for the shelter.
Dr. Federico is a veterinarian at Riverview Animal Hospital and was named vice president of the Tennessee Veterinary Medical Association’s Executive Board for 2019-2020.
“Tai’s demonstrated leadership and dedication to our shelter will ensure a smooth transition during this pivotal time for the Humane Educational Society,” said Cindy Hall, vice president of the board of directors.
“Tai’s proven expertise and commitment to our organization will allow us to focus on our priorities: saving lives and improving animal welfare in our community.”
The board of directors has established a search committee to oversee the hiring process of a permanent executive director. Bob Citrullo, the former director of the shelter, resigned last week due to personal health concerns.
“Our committee is eager to begin the search for the shelter’s next leader,” said Dr. Federico. “This person will have the unique opportunity to usher in a new and exciting era for the Humane Educational Society. We look forward to sharing more information on our search process soon.”
The Humane Educational Society is in the final design stages of the 36,000-square-foot shelter. Detailed renderings will be shared with the public in the coming weeks.
