Police Blotter: Speedway Cook Tackles Beer Thief; Lonely Man Talks To The Birds

The Ulta store manager at Hamilton Place said "the same two black females that steal from their store often" came in and grabbed over $5,000 worth of fragrances and ran off outside. Witnesses said they believe the two suspects got into a dark-colored sedan around back of the store. Photos were taken of the suspects via camera. Police said it is possible that one of the females might be a woman who is the suspect in many other shoplifting cases.

Marcus Moore, while traveling down Barton Avenue, had his vehicle was struck by a stone that someone had thrown. Marcus said he saw a person throw it but could not describe them due to the area which the stone had come from. He had damage to the windshield of his vehicle as well as a dent to the rear bumper of his new vehicle. An officer checked the area to locate a possible suspect but was unable to do so.

Police were called on a shoplifting at the Dollar General on Rossville Boulevard. The manager said an unknown white male wearing a gray, short sleeve T-shirt and khaki pants came into the store and left with a box of pop tarts (valued at $3), a box of hot pockets (valued at $3), a box of Fruity Pebbles cereal (valued at $2), and a gallon of milk (valued at $3). The individual entered a gray Honda Civic without a license plate.

Another shoplifting was at the Speedway on 3rd Street. The manager said a black male wearing a white tank top and blue jeans entered the store and exited the beer cooler with two 24 packs and an 8 pack of Bud Light. The manager said she recognized the male from previous shoplifting of beer that occurred last week. The man ran out of the store and behind the store. The store cook ran after the man and tackled him behind the store, allowing them to recover the beer. She believes that the suspect fled the scene in an unknown make white sedan. Police BOLOed the vehicle description sector-wide

The owner of Mr. T's in St. Elmo said his delivery guy took $72 worth of pizza to 1449 W 55th St. He said the delivery guy was given a fake $100 bill. When the delivery guy returned to the business, they used a marker on the bill and it showed the bill to be fraudulent. The number the order was called it goes to an app which generates a different number. The manager asked if police could go to the residence and attempt to retrieve the change given. He said he would just like the change and that will be the end of it. An officer knocked on the residence but there was no answer at the door.

A woman on Gateway Avenue said she received several phone calls regarding an investigation against her from "detectives" in New York and Texas. They told her that if she returned money via gift cards she would not be arrested. She gave them the numbers for a $195 Ebay gift card which she purchased at a Dollar General. She attempted to call them back because she feared she had been cheated and the numbers she called were no longer in service.

An officer on Riverfront Parkway, while patrolling the area, was approached by a citizen who was concerned about a white male sitting near the Riverwalk talking to himself. The officer located a man sitting at the park with his bicycle nearby. The man said he does talk to himself and to the birds because he is often alone. The officer ran the gentleman through NCIC and he came back clear of warrants.
