Council May Post Signs Saying Pedestrians Have Right Of Way Over Bicyclists On Sidewalks' Curbside Recycling Boosted

  • Tuesday, August 20, 2019

City Council members indicated that signs may be posted around town stating that pedestrians have the right of way on sidewalks over bicyclists.

Councilman Jerry Mitchell said he heard reports of pedestrians being berated by bicyclists for getting in their way on sidewalks.

He said he would seek to get the signs posted if he could get council support.

Councilman Chip Henderson said he would be a co-sponsor.

Other council members chimed in as well.

Councilman Mitchell joked, "I might need to bid this co-sponsorship out."

The council was told that money has come available to boost the curbside recycling program.

Bill Payne, city engineer, said, "We were told the money was available, and we were glad to get it."

The donation of $943,000 is from government and private sources.

Mr. Payne said it will be used for additional curbside recycling containers as well as to make the service available over a wider area.
