  • Tuesday, August 27, 2019
Police said 42-year-old Rachel Tucker was in critical condition after a wreck on Ochs Highway on Lookout Mountain on Monday morning. Friends were told on Tuesday afternoon that Ms. Tucker died.

She was the mother of five sons, with ages ranging from seventh grade to a freshman in college.

At approximately 9:56 a.m., Chattanooga Police were notified of a traffic crash at 560 Ochs Highway. The CPD Traffic Unit responded to the scene.

It was found that a Volvo driven by Ms.
Tucker was heading north traveling down Lookout Mountain. A Freightliner was traveling south up Lookout Mountain.

Police said the Volvo was negotiating a right turn during a period of rain with wet roadways. The Freightliner was negotiating a right turn in the same area.

The Volvo lost control and slid sideways across the double yellow line. As the Freightliner came out of the turn the Volvo was in his lane of travel.

The Freightliner struck the Volvo in the passenger side and pushed it into the ditch on the right side of the road. The truck also came to rest in the ditch.

Ms. Tucker was extricated from the vehicle by the Chattanooga Fire Department and taken by Hamilton County EMS to a local hospital.

Police said she suffered major injuries as a result of the crash and was listed in critical condition by medical staff at the hospital.

George Dews, 25, was the driver of the Freightliner.
