Police Blotter: Woman Denies She Was Siccing Dog On Neighbor; Thief Swipes Corvette Steering Wheel

Police interviewed at woman at 600 Market St. who said her husband parked their green 2003 Toyota Rav4,  but he could not locate the vehicle where he believed he left it. Police searched the surrounding area extensively and could not locate the vehicle. The vehicle was entered into NCIC.  Later, the vehicle was located at 1200 Cowart St. Police said, "It appeared to have been  parked here and the victim forgot where it was parked. The vehicle had no new damage. The vehicle was removed from NCIC."

Police checked out a shoplifting at 6901 Lee Hwy. A loss prevention officer said a couple walked into the store and stole a package of meat. They walked towards the meat aisle, then selected a package of meat and walked down another aisle. When they did, the man wearing a blue shirt and shorts lifted his shirt and placed the package under his shirt and in his waistband. Both then left the store without paying for the merchandise. They got into a blue Hyundai Sonata. Police were able to get photos of the pair and get the name of a woman owning a similar vehicle.

There was a suspicious activity call at Walgreens on North Market. A woman said while she was shopping for cosmetics, an Hispanic male, approached her. He was described as approximately five feet tall with an average build, wearing a black shirt and black shorts with dark tennis shoes, approximately 30-40 years of age. She said the man asked if he could buy her items, and that if she was ready to go. She told the man no, but he told her not to tell him no. The man then stated he was going to buy her items again, and not to say no because it was his birthday. She said the man never touched her but just spoke with her. She said she got on the phone to call her boyfriend and police but upon her contacting dispatch the man left the scene and was not found in the immediate area by police. The woman said "she didn't want to press any charges if the identity of the man was found but that she wanted this to be documented in case this individual attempts such behavior again with other females."

On 14th Avenue, police were dispatched to a call described as "a female who sent a dog on another female on purpose." Police arrived on the scene and were flagged down by Ms. Jackson. She said her dog got out of the house as her neighbor, Ms. Gavitt, started to cuss by telling her to get her "d--- dog." During that time, Ms. Gavitt's dog also got out of the house. Ms. Jackson stated as she was walking away, Ms. Gavitt told her dog to "Get her" meaning she was sending the dog after her as the dog started to run around in the street. Police spoke to Ms. Gavitt who stated that when her own dog got out of the house, she was yelling to "get her" as in get the dog. Police spoke to a neighbor who witnessed the incident who stated that Ms. Gavitt was yelling for help when she said "get her" while the dog was running around. Police told Ms. Jackson that she mis-heard Ms. Gavitt as it was a misunderstanding between both parties. Police explained that Ms. Gavitt was yelling for help as she was not attempting to send her dog on another person. "All parties left and went back to their residence with no further issues."

A man on Pope Drive said that he left his white 1999 Chevy Corvette parked on the street near his home and he last saw it around 10 p.m. and it was locked. The car stayed there overnight and the next morning around 7:20 a.m., he discovered that the driver side door had been pried open and his steering wheel had been cut out and was gone.

At a store at 2220 Hamilton Place Blvd., the store manager said a man shoplifted from their store. He was described as a white male, mid 20's, wearing blue jeans, a dark blue button down shirt and a hat. She said he went to the shoe department and grabbed a pair of black Nike Shox. He took them elsewhere in the store and placed them on his feet. The man had another man with him who was acting as a "lookout." The manager said she saw the suspect walk out the door with the tennis shoes on his feet, but he entered the store wearing slides. The suspect was seen on camera footage wearing the shoes out of the store. Both men left the scene in a teal colored Ford Ranger. The store provided photos of the suspects.

A man on 5th Avenue said two unidentified men came into his yard and stole wheels with tires. The neighbor caught the event on camera and provided the evidence to an officer. The footage showed a white Ford truck driven by a female arriving with two males. The two males are seen going into the yard and coming out with two rims wrapped in premium tires. The wheels were thrown into the bed of the truck and the suspects fled.

A man said while his vehicle was parked in the parking lot at Sir Goony's on Brainerd Road an unknown suspect broke into his vehicle. He said the suspect broke his passenger window, damaging the door in the process. The suspect stole his girlfriend's purse, which was sitting in the passenger seat. Police spoke with the girlfriend, who estimated the total value of all items stolen was about $470. While police were on scene, she was in the process of canceling her debit and credit cards.
