The Dalton Police Department is investigating a crash that claimed the life of a Dalton man Wednesday morning. The initial investigation of the three-vehicle crash forced the closure of a segment of Walnut Avenue between Abutment Road and VD Parrott Parkway to be closed for approximately three hours.
The crash happened at approximately 9:20 a.m. at the intersection of Walnut Avenue and VD Parrott Parkway. Early information in the investigation indicates that a silver GMC Sonoma pickup truck driven by Trammell Caldwell, 73, of Dalton, was traveling northbound on VD Parrott and apparently attempting to turn westbound onto Walnut Avenue at the same time that a white Kia passenger car driven by Kenneth Blevins, 34, of Chattanooga was traveling eastbound on Walnut Avenue. Those two vehicles collided in the intersection, and the impact sent the Kia into a motorcycle that was in the westbound lanes of Walnut Avenue. The motorcycle rider was killed by the impact. His name is not being released at this time pending the notification of next of kin.
The Dalton Police Department’s Traffic Unit is working to determine what caused the collision and investigators are looking for witnesses to the crash. Anyone who witnessed the crash or has information on the incident is asked to contact Officer David Saylors at 706 278-9085, ext. 9124.
