The family dog did not survive a house fire in Hixson on Wednesday morning.
At 5 a.m., a neighbor awoke to her dogs barking constantly and got up to check on them. She noticed her neighbor’s back deck was on fire. A 911 call was made reporting a house fire at 8228 Blue Spruce Dr.
Dallas Bay Volunteer Fire Department responded and arrived on the scene reporting fire through the roof and on the back side of the home. Fire officials reported all residents were out of the house without injury. The homeowner said a dog never made it out of the house.
Dallas Bay VFD requested a mutual aid response for additional manpower. Red Bank Fire Department, Soddy Daisy Fire Department and the city of Chattanooga responded to the scene.
Damages are unknown at this time, but fire officials reported significant damage to the home. The American Red Cross was requested to the scene to take care of the immediate needs of the family (three adults and two children).
The cause of the fire is undetermined and will be under investigation by the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office.
