Earl Freudenberg: You Could Tell The Weather By The Top Of The Maclellan Building

  • Sunday, June 16, 2024

Years ago a listener sent me pictures of an interesting weather vane that was on top of the Maclellan Building.

It would go up when the temperature was rising, and it would go down when the temperature was turning colder.

It turned white on top when it was going to snow.

I can’t remember what color the top was for clear skies or partly cloudy or rain.

My parents would drive downtown to see what the weather was going to be. This was in the 50’s, and perhaps into the 60’s.

I don’t remember when they took it down.
