Charles “Charlie” Marion Bearden, 86, of Dalton, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, September 3, 2019.

He was a member of Salem Baptist Church. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Boyd Bearden and Ruby Clark Bearden; and sister, Lois Bearden Hartman. 

Charles is survived by his wife, Mae Wade Bearden; sons, Marc Bearden of Atlanta and Eric Bearden of Jacksonville; daughter, Lisa Bearden Scott of Clermont, Fl.; stepson and daughter-in-law, Mike and Susan Wade of Cohutta; stepson, Mark Wade of Decatur; stepdaughter, Traci Ruff Lippard of Young Harris; grandsons, Josh Bryant, Aaron Wade, Wesley Ruff, Andy Ruff, John Ruff, and Ben Ruff; granddaughters, Elizabeth Scott, Emily Wade Scoggins, and Kristy Ruff; great-grandchildren; sister, Martha Bearden Keyes; and nieces and nephews. 

Charles lived his entire life in Dalton and was co-owner of one of the first large carpet mills of Chatsworth - Trinity Carpets which he sold and opened other businesses over the years such as Crusader Carpets, Country Squire Carpets, Gallery Carpets, and Crystal Creek Logging & Wood Cutting Co. 

He was a private pilot and his favorite pastimes were flying, trading distinctive cars, boating, and eating Mae’s homemade goodies. He also served in the Air Force as a young man. He is remembered by many for his generosity, jovial personality, and his favorite statement, “Happiness is between the ears.” 

Services will be held Sunday, Sept. 8, at 3 p.m. in the Pleasant Grove Chapel of Julian Peeples Funeral Home with the Reverend James Brownlee officiating. 

The family will receive friends prior to the service Sunday, Sept. 8, from 1-3 p.m. at the funeral home.

A private family burial will be in the West Hill Cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions to the Northwest Georgia Family Crisis Center, P.O. Box 554, Dalton, GA 30722.
