Kathryn R. Sharp, age 88, of Stallion Drive, Summerville, Georgia passed away Tuesday, September 3, 2019, at her home.
A native of Chattooga County, she was born on Feb. 4, 1931, daughter of the late A.W. “Dolph” and Nell Jones Vernon. She was the wife U.S. Army Chaplain J. L. Sharp, and assisted him in organizing, developing, and teaching Sunday School for military families. Mrs. Sharp also served military families as a Grey Lady for the American Red Cross. While in Korea and Thailand, she served as a volunteer in hospitals and orphanages.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Sharp was preceded in death by a sister, Vivian White, and brothers, Walt Vernon and Harold Vernon.
Kathryn is survived by her husband of 72 years, Chaplain Lieutenant Colonel Retired J.L. Sharp, U.S. Army. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held from the J.D. Hill Memorial Chapel of Earle Rainwater Funeral Home on Friday, Sept. 6, at 2 p.m., with Dr. Paul Mason, Rev. Bruce Morgan, and Rev. Mike Wallin officiating. Pallbearers will be Donnie Hall, Tommy Vernon, Sammy Vernon, Vernon White, Taylor Parris, and Ed Sharp. Interment will be in Oak Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, Sept. 5, from 6-8 p.m. at Earle Rainwater Funeral Home.
