What's Up With Wilcox Boulevard?

Wednesday, September 4, 2019

Someone please explain the current single lane each direction traffic pattern for Wilcox Boulevard. If this is a test pattern for a streetscape project, what a giant mistake that will be.

Anyone who lives east or north of downtown regularly utilizes this route to connect to Shallowford Road and Highways 17 and 58. Narrowing of this corridor would create impediment to normal traffic flow as well gridlock an emergency corridor accessing Memorial Hospital and Fire Station #4. When Amnicola Highway is blocked by an accident, this route is also a bypass.

I sincerely hope the traffic engineers are not considering a project to narrow this route. Several people have commented to me their disapproval of this situation and I also heard it mentioned on morning radio.
