Carmen Castillo
Carmen Castillo, 91, of Chattanooga, passed from this world to her new heavenly home on Thursday, September 5, 2019. She was surrounded by her loving family as she passed peaceably from us.
Carmen was born August 26, 1928 in Havana, Cuba and lived as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother. She helped manage her husband’s medical practice. Carmen was an active traveler, hiker and was strong in the Catholic faith.
Carmen was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years Antonio Rafael Castillo, MD; her parents Manuel and Antonia Varela.
She was the family matriarch and will be missed by her daughters, Maria (Richard) Stangarone and Ivonne (William Jude) Weidner; six grandchildren, Thomas (Robin) Stangarone, Mary Carmen Stangarone, Maria (Mateo) Corbet, Anthony (Chelsea) Weidner, Ivonne (Cam) Stewart and Veronica (Nick) Daughertey; 10 great-grandchildren, Emi and Mahia Corbet, Mia and Jude Weidner, Conner, Duncan and Caelyn Stewart, Olivia, Matthew and Carmen Daughertey.
Thank you to Reverend Mike Creason and Reverend Charlie Burton who performed last rights at the Memorial Hospital just hours before Carmen’s passing. Also thank you to the Alexian Village for their efforts in assisted living during Carmen’s last eight months here on earth.
The family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 8, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home where a Rosary Service will be held at 6 p.m.
A Mass of Celebration will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, at St. Jude Catholic Church, 930 Ashland Terrace, Chattanooga, Tn. 37415 with Father Charlie Burton officiating.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Catholic Church or Hospice of Chattanooga, 4411 Oakwood Drive, Chattanooga, Tn. 37416.
