Covenant Keeper Lemay Named USA South Defensive Player Of The Week

  • Monday, September 9, 2019
Covenant men's soccer senior goalkeeper Paul Lemay was named USA South Defensive Player of the Week, for the period ending Sept. 8, announced the conference on Monday afternoon.

Lemay becomes the second Scot to earn a conference weekly award this year, joining Mercer Stout (Sept. 2, Player of the Week). It is the second career defensive player of the week honor for Lemay.

A senior from Apopka, Fla., Lemay was crucial to the Scots' 1-0-1 week. Lemay had one shutout and tallied 10 saves in 200 minutes at the net for Covenant.
In a 2-0 victory over Berry on Friday, he had three saves to notch his first shutout of the season. In a 1-1 draw with Sewanee on Saturday, Lemay made seven saves, including a critical one late in the second overtime period to preserve the tie.

Lemay is 2-0-1 on the year with a save percentage of .813 and a goals against average of 0.93 in 290 minutes of action. The senior ranks second in the USA South in save percentage and third in goals against average.

Covenant (3-0-1) will take its unbeaten record into the USA South opener on Saturday at Brevard. Match time is set for 3 p.m.
