The Baylor girls soccer team traveled to Pope John Paul II for the first round of the state tournament on Saturday. Aliya Cooper scored three goals to lead the Red Raiders to a 4-1 win.
Cooper scored in the 13th and 24th minute off assists from Melissa Oliveira and Elizabeth Stophel.
Zoey Mize scored in the 35th minute to give Baylor a 3-0 lead. Mize's goal was assisted by Evie Culbreath.
Cooper scored her third goal in the 52nd minute off a Culbreath cross.
JPII scored on a penalty kick in the 61st minute by Natale Mertens.
"Really proud of the girls to go on the road and get the win," Baylor head coach Curtis Blair said. "They had a really good week of training and to get rewarded for their efforts all week."
Baylor had a 10-8 advantage on shots. Addison Yelton had five saves for Baylor.
Baylor advances to play GPS next Saturday in the Division II-AA state quarterfinals.
