Mary Johanna Dolan Downs, 93, of Chattanooga passed away on Saturday, November 21, 2020. 

She was born on March 27, 1927, in Chattanooga to John T. Dolan, Sr. and Alma Coyle Dolan.  Mary was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church and a graduate of Notre Dame High School class of 1945.  She was a member of the Serra Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin LaBree Downs on Aug. 11, of this year; her parents and a brother, John T. Dolan, Jr.

Survivors include her daughter, Rosemary (Kent) Carswell; two sons, Patrick T. Downs and Dr. Christopher J. Downs; three grandchildren, Patrick T. Downs, Jr., Jessica P. Downs and Lincoln C. Downs; several nieces and nephews.

Due to the national health crisis, the funeral mass will be private Friday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church with Father Mike Nolan and Father Mike Creson officiating.  Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery.  There will be no visitation.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Basilica of Sts. Peter and Paul, 214 E. 8th Street, Chattanooga, Tn. 37402.

Arrangements are by the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 404 S. Moore Road.
