CSO Presents Live And Virtual Performances Of A Classical Christmas

  • Wednesday, November 25, 2020

The Chattanooga Symphony & Opera will present its first holiday concert of the season with A Classical Christmas on Thursday, Dec. 3, and Friday, Dec. 4, at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 5, at 3 p.m. at The Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul. Part of the First Horizon Foundation Instrumental Series, the program will feature classical works of the season such as Jolivet’s Pastoreles de Noel, Holst’s Paul the Apostle, and Haydn’s Symphony No. 26.

“I'm excited to present a beautiful program of Jolivet's trio for flute, bassoon, and harp, called Pastorale de Noel,” says Kayoko Dan, CSO music director. “This is a very serene work with each movement describing a scene of Christmas, and it is sure to warm your heart. Also on the program will be Haydn's earlier Sturm und Drang work Symphony No. 26, which for a time was nicknamed "Weihnachten" (Christmas), and Holst's St. Paul Suite, which quotes Greensleeves in the last movement and prominently features Associate Concertmaster Josh Holritz.”

Concerts in the First Horizon Foundation Instrumental Series feature smaller ensembles of musicians, limited audience sizes, and socially distanced seating. Those who prefer to watch the program from home can also purchase a livestream access ticket for the Dec. 4 performance for $10.

Tickets will not be sold at the venue and attendees will be required to wear masks, follow social distancing guidelines, and adhere to the CSO's COVID-19 related concert health and safety guidelines, which can be found at chattanoogasymphony.org/concert-health-safety. To purchase tickets and get the latest news on upcoming CSO performances or livestreams, visit www.chattanoogasymphony.org or contact the CSO Box Office at 267-8583.
