Lee Records Video With Jordan Smith, Lee Singers

  • Thursday, December 17, 2020

Lee University helped produce a video of “Angels We Have Heard on High (Glory Be),” featuring singer, songwriter, musician, and Lee alumnus Jordan Smith, along with the university’s choral ensemble Lee Singers. The recording took place in The Lee University Chapel.

"Jordan reached out to us in September to discuss some ideas he had for a recording project, which eventually evolved into the production of two videos for his new Christmas single,” said Josh York, director of facilities management and manager of the LeeU Tech Crew who were instrumental during this endeavor.

Mr. Smith, a former member of both the LeeU Tech Crew and the Lee Singers, gained national recognition when he won season nine of “The Voice,” an NBC singing competition television series. Mr. Smith was, in fact, an active member of both groups when he won the competition.

According to Dr. Brad Moffett, director of Lee Singers and vice president for University Relations at Lee, it was a natural fit for Mr. Smith to return to his alma mater to perform with Singers.

“It is always special for the students and me to work with Jordan,” said Dr. Moffett, “Having Jordan back on campus brought back so many great memories of when he was a student in Lee Singers.”

While Mr. York’s crew provided venue support, staging, set and light design, production support, and audio mixing, Lee’s Media Services Crew served as camera assistants, production assistants, and grips, who handled set up, rigging, and moving equipment.

“We love collaborating with artists,” said Dr. Jeff Salyer, director of media services at Lee and co-producer with Mr. Smith on the project. “Our goal is to take an artist’s vision and come alongside to create something visually compelling to go along with the beautiful music.”

The first video was released by Mr. Smith earlier this month and can be viewed by visiting Mr. Smith’s social media channels or on YouTube. The second video, an acoustic version of the same song, is scheduled to release later this month and will also be available to view on Mr. Smith’s channels and YouTube, along with Lee University’s social media channels.

“We love Jordan Smith around here,” said Mr. York. “We are thankful for the place Lee has in his heart, and we look forward to more opportunities to work together in the future.”
