Retired From Hamilton County School System After 38 Years

Shirley Biggs Deems, 86, of Rossville, Georgia, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 19, 2020.

A longtime resident of Rossville, Mrs. Deems was an honor graduate of Tyner High School.  She retired from the Hamilton County School System after 38 years of service.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church since 1982 and a member of “It’s A Wonderful Life Group.”

Shirley was the daughter of the late Walter and Annise Biggs and was preceded in death by all of her siblings;  Sandra Burns, Hazel Randall, Josephine Hagaman , Betty Mullis, Gary Biggs, David Biggs, Charlie Biggs, John Clyde Biggs, Walter Biggs Jr., and Tommy Biggs.

She is survived by her daughter, Karen Pendley (Gary Miller), Rossville;  grand daughter, Shea (Chris) Synder;  two great-grandchildren, Keyle and Caden Snyder all of Ringgold;  two brothers, B.H. (Elizabeth) Biggs, Dunlap, TN and Tony Biggs, Birchwood;  two sisters-in-law, Judy Biggs, Hixson and Linda Biggs, Ooltewah; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Services will be held on Monday, Feb. 24, at noon in the funeral home chapel with Reverend Chris Eulers, Reverend Chris Biggs, and Gary Miller officiating. Burial will follow at the Chattanooga National Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made the World Missions at First Presbyterian Church, 554 McCallie Ave., Chattanooga, 37402.

The family would like to thank Shirley’s wonderful caregivers, Sandra, Bea, Donna, Jane and Hearth Hospice for all they did during her illness.
