“I am Hamilton” spotlights Gena Thompson, a parent volunteer at Tommie F. Brown Academy. She is a former combat medic and taught about veterans for Veterans Day wearing her uniform. Ms. Thompson was a major factor in the school's participation in the Jump Rope for Heart pledge drive.
“I am Hamilton” highlights the contributions of alumni, teachers, parents, students, support workers and community members in providing opportunities for children in the classrooms of Hamilton County Schools.
"Better opportunities for children today mean a brighter future filled with possibilities for our graduates, their families, and the community," officials said.
The Thompson family (mom, dad, grandmother and kids) is very involved at Brown Academy. They participate in all of the fundraisers and events. Ms. Thompson provides healthy snacks and supplies for multiple classrooms. She also is a positive role model and cheerleader for the school and children.
“Maintaining a high level of parental involvement can be a challenge, so Mrs. Thompson and her family are like a breath of fresh air,” wrote Shannon Morrow, first-grade teacher, Brown Academy, in nominating Ms. Thompson. “It really makes me happy to have such a caring, strong role model for my class and my school.
