Dunward B. Monroe, Jr.
Dunward B. Monroe, Jr. passed away on Sunday, June 15, 2025 at his home on Signal Mountain. He was 87.
Born in 1937 in Chattanooga, Dun was the son of Bernice McIntosh Monroe and Dunward Beaumont Monroe. He graduated from City High School in 1955 and later from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. He also studied at Emory and Henry College in Virginia. Dun served for 20 years in the U.S. Army and Army Reserves and for more than 40 years in the U.S. Postal Service in Red Bank and the Chattanooga area.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda Monroe, and son, Stephen Monroe (Ann); grandson, George Monroe; sister, Carol Monroe; sister-in-law, Terri Wyatt (Jimmy); sister-in-law, Beverly Monroe; and many beloved nephews and nieces: including Michelle Dotson (Dan), Jay Wyatt, Eddie and Scott Monroe, Sam, Ward, Joe, Lara, and Elizabeth Sibold, Kaila Dotson Cameron (Britton), Andrew and Ben Dotson, Cooper and Brody Cameron, Mason, Isabelle, McKenna, and Spencer Sibold, and Ian, Evan, and Alyx Monroe.
He was preceded in death by brother, Jack Monroe, and sister, Mary Anne Sibold.
Dun will be remembered for his cheerful nature, optimism, tremendous work ethic, and, most of all, his steadfast devotion to family. He enjoyed flying, riding motorcycles, writing poetry, singing at his church, coaching baseball, eating eclairs, and telling jokes. A devout and introspective Christian, Dun was an active member of Signal Mountain United Methodist Church.
A visitation will be held on Friday, June 20, from 1:30-3 p.m. Funeral services will follow at 3 p.m. Both will be held at Lane Funeral Home in Chattanooga.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Signal Mountain United Methodist Church.
