Bryan College Library Renamed To Honor Outgoing President

  • Friday, June 12, 2020

Members of Bryan College’s Board of Trustees surprised outgoing president Stephen Livesay and his wife Corrine by naming the college’s library in their honor. With more than a half million books, e-books, media items, periodical titles and archive materials, the 22,000 square foot facility was built in 2003 and is located on Bryan Drive in the heart of the campus.

Since 2003, Dr. Livesay has served as the seventh president of Bryan College.  Under his leadership, the College has expanded the degree completion program; implemented a dual enrollment program and graduate programs in business, Christian studies and education; and opened the Vogel School of Engineering.  New student life advances include the Bryan Opportunity scholarship; Bryan College Martial Arts Academy; and a national champion fishing team.  In 2004 and again in 2014, Dr. Livesay oversaw successful SACS (Southern Association of Colleges and Schools) accreditation.  Under Dr. Livesay’s leadership, College enrollment has more than doubled since 2003.

Along with educational accomplishments, many facility renovations have also occurred, including the gymnasium, dining hall, several dormitories, Rudd Auditorium and Brock Hall.  Rankin Center has been reconfigured as home of the engineering school and the new Stophel Welcome Center now houses the main administrative offices.

Bryan College Trustee Lebron Purser said, “The imprint of Dr. Stephen and Corrine Livesay on Bryan College will be felt on our campus for many years in the future.  Their dedication of putting ‘Christ above All’, set the tone for their work with the College.  As the Livesays transition from active leadership on campus, we wanted to honor their work in a way that will be a hallmark for future students.  Renaming our library to the Livesay Learning Center is a very appropriate and well-deserved honor for the Livesays.”

Board Chair Delana Bice echoed those sentiments and added, “Bryan College is experiencing an unprecedented period of excitement and growth.  Much of this can be attributed to the vision Dr. Livesay has had and for his ability to implement that vision.  Because of this, the board of trustees is also conferring the title ‘president emeritus’ upon Dr. Livesay as a means to honor his exemplary service and dedication to our students, staff and community.”

Dr. Livesay will retire from Bryan College on July 15 with Dr. Douglas Mann beginning his tenure as the College’s eighth president.  Dr. Mann said, “As a Bryan College graduate and father to two students, I know the difference this College has made in my life.  As I’ve worked with Dr. Livesay, I’m reminded of the deep commitment we have to our core beliefs and to our mission.  These don’t change with the transition from one president to another. Stephen and Corrine Livesay have set a high standard for all of us and I am personally excited that we are honoring their dedication to Bryan College.”
