Known For Being An Excellent Seamstress And Wonderful Cook

Marian Sue Vaughn Helton, 91, passed away on Friday, September 19, 2020. 

She was loved by many and is now with her Heavenly Father.

She was born in Chester, Il., on Jan. 8, 1929, to her parents Herschel Haskell and Cora Mae Vaughn.  She resided in Chattanooga for the majority of her life, and she graduated from Central High School in 1947.  She worked as a telephone operator on Lookout Mountain prior to her marriage to J. T. Helton Jr. She and her family were members of Central Baptist Church, Woodmore. She spent the past 17 years of her life in Alpharetta, Ga.

Marian is remembered as an excellent seamstress and for her delicious Sunday family dinners and cakes.  She most treasured spending time with her children and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her late husband, J.T.Helton Jr.; her sister, Ruth Nichols, and her brothers Haskell and Ted Vaughn. 

Survivors include, her daughter, Shonnie (Steve) Jennings of Milton, GA; Jim (Joy) Helton III of Thompson Station, TN; Kim (Jill) Helton of Columbia, TN; and Lisa Helton Kibler of Cumming, GA.  She enjoyed and dearly loved her 4 children, 8 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren.  She was survived by many dear nieces and nephews. 

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 3, at Greenwood Cemetery in Chattanooga.
