String Theory at the Hunter, in partnership with Lee University and the Hunter Museum of American Art, will host “No Strings Attached!,” a virtual event allowing audience members to experience behind-the-scenes conversations and impromptu performances with Sandbox Percussion on Tuesday, Jan. 19.

String Theory was founded in 2009 by Artistic Director and pianist Gloria Chien to expose new audiences to chamber music, invigorate the local classical music scene, and cultivate a future generation of music lovers.

“Our new twist on concerts offers an opportunity to get up close and personal with our favorite artists,” said Dr. Chien. “These informal social events on Zoom will give our audience members a chance to chat with guest artists and the rest of the String Theory family.”

Heralded by The Guardian as “...virtuosic and utterly mesmerizing,” members of the award-winning quartet Sandbox Percussion will give participants a special look at their life during COVID as friends and musicians.

The quartet shares meaningful musical experiences with communities worldwide through performance, collaboration, and education to inspire and cultivate creativity, conscientiousness, and cooperation. To learn more, visit https://sandboxpercussion.com/about/.

This project is funded under a Grant Contract with the State of Tennessee.

String Theory @ Home will continue Season 12 on Feb. 16 and April 13 with a two-part concert featuring two-time GRAMMY nominee violinist Jennifer Frautschi. Frautschi will make her String Theory debut with String Theory favorites violist Paul Neubauer, cellist Edward Arron, and bassist Thomas Van Dyck, along with Dr. Chien.

“While I miss seeing our guests and members at the Hunter, it has been amazing to connect with everyone this season through String Theory @ Home,” said Dr. Chien.

A second “No Strings Attached!” event will take place on March 9 with the Neubauer Quartet.
