“Toys For Tots” Comes To Mainstreet Cruise-In Oct. 23

  • Monday, October 18, 2021

The Mainstreet Cruise In 20th season finale is this Saturday from 1-6 p.m. around the Courthouse Square in Cleveland.  Car enthusiasts will be showing off their vehicles as all types of cars are displayed, from classics to special interest and current models.

The Marine Corps Reserve will hold their traditional “Toys for Tots” collection drive at the MainStreet Cruise-In.  Over the 73 years of the Toys for Tots program, Marines have distributed more than 566 million toys to more than 258 million needy children.  “This charitable endeavor has made U.S. Marines the unchallenged leader in looking after less fortunate children at Christmas,” according to the program’s website.

Bring a new, unwrapped toy to the collection point at the intersection of Ocoee and 1st Street beginning at 1 p.m.

“The Cruise-In is one of downtown’s most anticipated events and has a big economic impact on our community.  It is amazing how many out-of-state cars travel to Cleveland to take part. In fact, several cars from Gainesville, Fl. came to the September show. These visitors are spending money in our hotels, restaurants and shops,” said Sharon Marr, Mainstreet Cleveland executive director.

“Thank you to the MainStreet Cruisers and the volunteers who invest many hours to make this event so successful, from the blocking of streets and directing traffic, to clean-up following the event,” continued Ms. Marr.

The April through September events averaged 400 vehicles at each show.

The Cruise-In is a free family event for both participants and spectators. Enjoy strolling the downtown streets and visiting local shops and restaurants.  Food vendors add to the atmosphere with barbeque, kettle corn, fried apple pies and more.
