Joyce Owens
Joyce Ann Owens, 73, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, passed away Sunday, October 17, 2021, in the comfort of her own home.
She was a graduate of Howard High School. Joyce at an early age had a passion for cooking. She moved to Atlanta, Georgia in the early 90's. It was there she pursued her passion for cooking, working for Sunset Restaurant as a cook. Joyce retired from Sunset Restaurant after nearly 20 years. Joyce enjoyed cooking and over the years helped feed her community and neighbors. Anyone who knew Joyce, knew that she was full of humor, laughter, and enjoyed having fun. There was never a dull moment with her around. In 2016, Joyce decided to move back home to Chattanooga to be closer to her family.
Joyce was preceded in death by her father, Oscar Owens, Sr; mother, Lee Gusta Owens; sister, Mary Helen Hobbs-Owens; and brother, Oscar Owens, Jr.
Survivors include her supportive and loving sisters, Evenlyn Jean Owens and Carolyn Whitlock-Owens, of Atlanta, GA; four loving sons, Victor Owens, Aaron (Kia Allen) Owens, of Chattanooga, TN, Allen Owens, and Antonio Owens, of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren, Quinnikia Espey, Victoria (Perry) Owens-Evans, Datra Owens, Aaron Mitchell, Abria Mitchell, Jyair Owens, and Victorious Joyce Owens, all of Chattanooga, Keanue Hunt, Antiana Joyce Owens, Antonio Cashmere Owens, and Antonio Steward, all of Atlanta, GA; 15 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; devoted and longtime friend, Johnny Watkins, of Boston, MA; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
Special thanks to Hearth Hospice of Chattanooga for their exceptional care and kindness. She fought a good fight, finished her course and kept the faith; now she can sleep on now and take a rest.
There will be an 11 a.m. memorial service on Sunday, Oct. 31, at the funeral home.
