U.S. Navy Veteran Was Former Georgia State Congressman

Thomas Edwin Lawrence, Jr. entered the gates of heaven on October 26, 2021, at the age of 80.

Born in Glenn Ridge NJ, he graduated from the University of NC in Chapel Hill, he served in the U.S. Navy (Lieutenant), obtained his JD from Emory University in Atlanta, and served in the Georgia House of Representatives 1983-1996. He was a 33rd degree Mason active in Scottish and York Rites.

Preceded in death by wife Gail (52 years), they made their home in Stone Mountain, Ga., and moved to Signal Mountain in 2014. 

Tom is survived by daughter, Christine (Stuart) Vaughn, sons, Thomas E. Lawrence, III and Patrick Lawrence (Heather); his grandchildren, Preston and Payton Vaughn and Eleanor Lawrence, in-laws, Clyde and Judy Goad, Mary Wright, and many nieces and nephews. 

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, Oct. 31, at 3 p.m. at Signal Crest United Methodist Church in Signal Mountain, with visitation from 2 -3 p.m. at the church.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Signal Crest United Methodist Church.
